I once cleaned my makeup brushes with antibacterial dish soap and olive oil. I thought I had all of my bases covered. The antibacterial agent would sanitize the brushes (and help keep breakouts at bay) while the olive oil would help preserve the bristles.  Although I have continued to use olive oil for its conditioning properties, I no longer use dish soap for multiple reasons. Firstly, the FDA has recently banned the sale of certain antibacterial chemicals due to lack of proof that they were safe for use over the long term. Secondly, it has not been proven to be more effective than using ordinary soap and water. Lastly, I have been seeking more natural health and beauty alternatives.

I’ve always had an interest in Dr. Bronner products however I was a little intimidated by them.  I decided to try out a few travel size products since they were on sale at Target. Since they are said to be very versatile I figured I could always find a use for them. I really enjoyed the unscented version  as a body wash however I did not feel the same about the citrus one. It has citrus oils- which is great for waking up in the morning however not so great for certain parts of the body. If you get my drift.

Determined to make it work, I decided to use the citrus version to clean my makeup brushes. Coupled with the olive oil and a silicone brush cleaning mat, I have found my new process. My brushes are not only clean but they smell great as well. How do you clean your makeup brushes?
