DIY Hair & Body Oil

DIY HAIR & BODY OIL| Moments With Millie

I was in the process of whipping up a batch of my hair and body oil and thought I would share my recipe with you. As you may know, ¬†I have dry hair and skin. ūüė¶ I have tried so many products to help alleviate the dryness. For me, there hasn’t been one item that has completely eradicated the dry skin. I find that I have to use a combination of things to see results. I often use the oil for hot oil treatments, to moisturize my hair, to moisturize my skin, as a cuticle treatment, etc. Do you use oils to moisturize your skin? Let me know which are your favorites.

35%  Olive Oil -(Adds moisture to the scalp and skin, makes hair soft and shiny, has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties that fight off common scalp and hair problems).

25%  Coconut Oil -(Naturally antibacterial and anti-fungal, an excellent moisturizer, and can penetrate hair better than many oils and smells great).

20%  Sweet Almond Oil- (Rich in Vitamin E, monounsaturated fatty acids, proteins, potassium and zinc, excellent moisturizer, and also smells great).

10%  Jamaican Black Castor Oil* (Moisturizes, thickens, strengthens and rapidly increases hair growth. JBCO increases blood flow to the scalp, supplying valuable nutrients to hair follicles)

10%  Jojoba Oil (The only oil that closely resembles human sebum, it is anti- bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Jojoba oil is an excellent moisturizer and emollient).

* I use this interchangeably with Haitian Black Castor Oil when available.

Current Favorites

Greetings Loves!

I am a recovering product junkie so I try to keep my purchases at a minimum. However, I found a few gems in the past few months that I thought I would share you all. What are your current favorite items?

  1. Ole Henricksen’s Truth Serum- The name says it all. This serum is the truth. I love how bright it makes my skin. It is quite pricey but it is worth the investment (in my opinion). You may want to consider purchasing the¬†3 Little Wonders trial pack before purchasing the regular size.
  2. Crystal Essence Mineral Deodorant- I have been on a search for a natural deodorant for quite some time. I love that this does not irritate my underarms and keeps me dry all day.
  3. Sephora Face Masks- I love how convenient these masks have been. They are great to travel with.
  4. Coconut Oil- I have been using coconut oil for my hair for a few years now however I just started using it to hydrate my skin. I love that it keeps me moisturized without the greasiness.
  5. Festive Socks- This is a random favorite but I have been into Christmas socks lately. I spend most evenings in cozy socks, drinking hot chocolate and watching a Christmas movie.

My Winter Deep Conditioner Recipe

Over the years, my hair has become more and more dry. This issue is exacerbated during the winter. The cold air tends to make my hair brittle and lifeless. I have tried many things to give my hair the moisture that it desperately needs. So far, my deep conditioner concoction seems to work the best. Listed below is my winter deep conditioner recipe. I don’t typically measure any of the ingredients. I usually use as much of each item that I feel my hair needs.

Winter Deep Conditioner Ingredients

Ingredients:
Extra virgin olive oil,
Organic coconut oil,
Pure, raw honey,
1 banana,
1 small avocado, and
Conditioner of your choice

Instructions:

Blend the olive oil, coconut oil, honey, banana, and avocado until smooth.

Pour the mixture in a bowl. Add the conditioner of your choice.

Starting from the ends, apply the mixture generously to your hair. Use a wide tooth comb to to detangle hair. Place a conditioning cap on hair and let conditioner sit for at least 30 minutes. Rinse well and wash hair as usual.
