My Fall/Winter Fashion Wishlist

IMG_5595

In the past, I was a serial impulse shopper. However as I got older (and wiser), I realized that I wasted a lot of money on clothing that just sat in my closet. Now, don’t get me wrong- I still enjoy shopping. I just try to be wiser about my purchases. I try to invest in pieces that I know I will get a lot of use out of. I do still purchase trendy items. I just try not to spend too much money on them. As a result, I have less buyer’s remorse and more outfit options. Sure, I now mull over items before pulling the trigger but that just means I end up loving the items that I purchase.

Today, I am sharing my fall/winter fashion wishlist. I thought it would be fun to put together an outfit with the pieces. What’s on your fashion wishlist?

Pleaded SkirtРI’ve always loved pleated skirts. They remind me so much of my mother. Although they are a classic style of skirt, they have recently made a huge comeback. And I want them in just about every color!

Lace Up Boots- Fall is the mark of boots season. Although I’ve only lived in states with warm weather, I can really appreciate a fabulous boot. I love just about every style of boot however I have a special affinity for the lace up/military style boot. I like that they walk the line of being feminine, masculine and vintage.

Black Opium Perfume– I love this scent. It is not new however it is perfect for this time of the year. It is a little mature, a little a spicy and a whole lot of sexy.

Velvet Bag– I am also in love with velvet handbags. I especially love the ones with the insect embellishments. The designer ones are quite expensive but I am not interested in spending a lot of money on something that could be here for just a season. Instead, I’m thinking about purchasing a plain one in a beautiful jewel tone.

BeretРThis is another classic piece that has made a comeback. I don’t intend to spend a lot of money on one because I think the trend will only last one season. However I do look forward to rocking mine.

Statement Faux Fur Jacket– This is another classic fashion piece. I think faux fur jackets in a neutral color are a must-have but this season, I having been drooling after faux fur in jewel tones. I think they add a little pop to the drab colors we tend to wear this time of the year.

Fall is finally here but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the weather we are experiencing in LA. So what is a girl that is obsessed with fall fashion to do? You break out your transitional pieces. I would love to put on chunky sweaters and boots however I’ll have to settle for maxi dresses, hats, and open-toed booties. Pieces like these are perfect for those warm fall days and can be layered with a faux leather jacket on chilly nights. Traditional fall colors such as burgundy helps to add to that fall feeling.

Five Favorites

Five Favorites | Moments With Millie

While I was away, I discovered (and rediscovered) so many wonderful items. Although it’s been a few months, I wanted to share some of those items with you. I will be doing a separate post on my ¬†favorite beauty items. If you know me, then you know I can talk about beauty for days. So I will spare you the really long post. ūüôā Have you rediscovered any oldies but goodies lately?

  1. Denim JacketDenim jackets are a wardrobe staple. They have been around for many years but seem to have been trending in the past few years.¬†Can¬†you believe that I haven’t owned one since I was a kid? I found this one at¬†Forever 21 and I am so happy to be¬†reacquainted with an old friend.
  2. Graphic T-Shirts– I used to have a love-hate relationship with graphic tees. Although I could see their appeal, I thought many of the slogans were¬†cheesy. I found a few simple ones . And now that I have found my preference¬†I just can’t stop wearing them.
  3. Faux Leather Leggings I purchased these leggings years ago however I was really shy to wear them. I traveled quite a bit in the spring and summer months and these leggings were really handy. They did not take up a lot space in my luggage, dressed up any outfit and were very comfortable.
  4. Nike Roshe One- These shoes aren’t new to me or the market but I have been loving them as of late. I have worn them during my recent travels, on casual days, etc. I haven’t been a sneaker wearer since middle school. It’s also nice to be reacquainted with this old friend. I love that I was able to¬†customize my¬†colorway on the Nike site.
  5. Chewing Gum– I know what you are thinking….. chewing gum? Let me explain, I love Chewing Gum- the show. It is a British sitcom available on Netflix. I learned about it in Paris¬†¬†however I didn’t check it out until EvelynFromTheInternets¬†mentioned it in one of her videos. The show is ¬†about a quirky, restricted young lady living in London. The show follows her life of mishaps, funny interactions and life lessons. I love the show but I wouldn’t recommended if you are offended by the sight of bodily fluids.

Four Fs of Fashion

Fall is almost here (Yay!). And like many of you,I like to purchase a few pieces to help usher the new season. However, before updating my wardrobe with my new fab finds, I try to make a point to clear my closet of the items that I no longer need. It helps to ensure I am not hoarding clothes and makes me feel better about purchasing new items.

Whether I am purging old clothes or adding new ones, I try to be selective about the items that live in my closet. Each piece has to pass a screening process in order to stay. I know that seems a little dramatic but it is really simple. I just evaluate the following:

Fit – Fit is probably the most thing that I consider¬†when I evaluate a piece of clothing. I truly believe that the key to always looking put together is wearing clothes that fit you well. It does not matter how trendy the garment is; if it does not fit well then I don’t keep it.

Function- Evaluating how the garment functions in your wardrobe is key in keeping out the clutter. Ask yourself how the item functions in your closet. Do you really need multiple ball gowns? Will you ever wear those shoes? How does that shirt fit into your current personal style?

Flexibility- If I can’t think of three ways of styling an article of clothing then I don’t keep it. That is the general rule of thumb that I go by. There are some exceptions to the rule however I find that this helps me to get the most out of my wardrobe. It also helps to cut down on the clutter.

Fabulous- Lastly, I try to only buy/keep items¬†that I love. I can’t tell you how much money I have wasted on items that ended up¬†collecting dust in my closet. And when I did wear some of them, I did not have the excitement everyone should have about their clothing. Lesson learned- never buy an item just because it was on sale or trending.

My Closet Organization Tips

My Closet Organization Tips | Moments With Millie

You may not know this about me but I am a little bit of a neat freak. And the Virgo in me just love to organize. Since sharing is caring, I thought I would share my closet organization tips. What are some of your tips for an organized closet?

  1. Color coordination. I do not know how I functioned before I color coordinated my closet. Since making the change I always know where to find each article of clothing. I also organized my garments by length. For example, my white tops are arranged by short to long sleeves.
  2. Slim hangers. I love slim hangers! I know that replacing hangers can be expensive but I think this is totally worth the investment. The Joy Mangano hangers are a bit pricey however  you can find more affordable alternatives at Costco or Marshalls. Here are some of the benefits of using these hangers:
    • Space savers- They doubled my closet space.
    • Slip Resistant- The velvet material prevents your clothing from slipping.
    • Visually appealing- I think these hangers give my closet a boutique feel. I love that they are available in many colors.
  3. Creative storage solutions. I am not a fan of many of the traditional closet organization tools. I find items such as over the door shoe racks and scarf/belt hangers to be bulky and visually unappealing. Instead, I try to use creative storage solutions. For example, I found a beautiful black lacquer box at Ross. I wasn’t sure how I would use the box but I knew I had to have it. The box turned out to be perfect for my sunglasses.
  4. Utilize vertical space. I had a hard time finding solutions for my scarves, hats, and belts. One day I walked into Big Lots and found lined baskets for $4 each. It was a major score! I now use the baskets to store my accessories. The baskets are placed on one of the shelves in my closet.
  5. Hide the clutter. I hate clutter. However I love handbags of all shapes and sizes. In keeping with utilizing the vertical space in my closet I store my small bags, clutches, and wallets in fabric storage cubes. My larger bags are on display on my closet shelf. This helps me to appreciate some of my bags without having to see all of them.
  6.  One in, one out. I follow the one in, one out rule. Although I have a pretty decent sized closet, I know that space is finite. This rule prevents me from hoarding clothing. It is a hard rule to follow however it really works.

The floral trend took on a tropical twist for the summer. And I must say that I am here for it! I loved the way Kristine (of TrendyCurvy) styled this top in one of her posts. Although I liked it, I didn’t have any thoughts of making a purchase. That changed when I found it on sale during a rare visit to Old Navy. And since I am enjoying the trend so much I thought I would try my hand at styling a tropical piece. As an alternative approach to Kristine’s I decided to keep things really simple by pairing the top with some basics from my closet.

I apologize for the awkward poses. ¬†It’s been a while since I’ve done a fashion post. That should be changing soon. ūüôā ¬†You may also be able to tell that there was a slight breeze on the day that I took these pictures. I didn’t mind though. It added to the ambiance. I just pretended as if I was shooting on a tropical island. Lol! What are some of your favorite summer ’17 trends?
