My Fall/Winter Fashion Wishlist

Fall/Winter Wishlist

In the past, I was a serial impulse shopper. However as I got older (and wiser), I realized that I wasted a lot of money on clothing that just sat in my closet. Now, don’t get me wrong- I still enjoy shopping. I just try to be wiser about my purchases. I try to invest in pieces that I know I will get a lot of use out of. I do still purchase trendy items. I just try not to spend too much money on them. As a result, I have less buyer’s remorse and more outfit options. Sure, I now mull over items before pulling the trigger but that just means I end up loving the items that I purchase.

Today, I am sharing my fall/winter fashion wishlist. I thought it would be fun to put together an outfit with the pieces. What’s on your fashion wishlist?

Pleaded SkirtРI’ve always loved pleated skirts. They remind me so much of my mother. Although they are a classic style of skirt, they have recently made a huge comeback. And I want them in just about every color!

Lace Up Boots- Fall is the mark of boots season. Although I’ve only lived in states with warm weather, I can really appreciate a fabulous boot. I love just about every style of boot however I have a special affinity for the lace up/military style boot. I like that they walk the line of being feminine, masculine and vintage.

Black Opium Perfume– I love this scent. It is not new however it is perfect for this time of the year. It is a little mature, a little a spicy and a whole lot of sexy.

Velvet Bag– I am also in love with velvet handbags. I especially love the ones with the insect embellishments. The designer ones are quite expensive but I am not interested in spending a lot of money on something that could be here for just a season. Instead, I’m thinking about purchasing a plain one in a beautiful jewel tone.

BeretРThis is another classic piece that has made a comeback. I don’t intend to spend a lot of money on one because I think the trend will only last one season. However I do look forward to rocking mine.

Statement Faux Fur Jacket– This is another classic fashion piece. I think faux fur jackets in a neutral color are a must-have but this season, I having been drooling after faux fur in jewel tones. I think they add a little pop to the drab colors we tend to wear this time of the year.

Motivational Monday: Going Through Tunnels

As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had a vivid imagination. I gravitated to the arts and was really into things such as music, dance, poetry, etc. Flash forward to two years ago, I decided to create this blog as a creative outlet. I had so many ideas floating in my mind and needed a way to get them out. Starting a beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog seemed like a natural fit. Except for one thing- I hate taking pictures. Like many people, I am overly¬†critical of myself. It doesn’t help that I am a Virgo (perfectionist) and a little bit of a control freak.

I started using Polyvore as a tool for creating outfit inspiration. While it has been a great tool, it is not as effective as I would like. Sure, the site is a virtual dream closet with a large array of clothing/accessory pieces however it does not allow viewers to see the outfits on an actual person. The collages are very aesthetically pleasing however they lack the ability to make a personal connection. Over time,  looming in the back of my mind was the realization that in order to take my blog to the next step, I had to model the outfits for my posts. In other words, I had to go through the tunnel.

Going through tunnels can be a little scary. They are dark and confining. Many people speed through them which add to the anxiety factor. The kicker is however scary they are, you have to go through them to get to where you are going.

Last Sunday, I casually mentioned to my husband that I would like to start taking pictures for my blog. I said I could go to Sephora to get my makeup done (for free) and head over to a nearby location¬†to take pictures. He said, “that’s a great idea!”. I didn’t expect him to say he was off the next day and would be more than happy to take the pictures. I instantly panicked because I knew ¬†I would have to go through with it. You see, hubby tends to be one of the few people that can actually¬†hold my feet to the fire.

I woke up Monday morning half excited and¬†half scared. I decided to take my time to get dressed and put on makeup. As a result, we¬†arrived to our destination a little later than¬†I hoped¬†but we quickly proceeded to take pictures. While taking pictures all I could think about was how uncomfortable with taking pictures. What’s worse is I¬†forgot my belt and accessories.¬†¬†Needless to say, I was feeling a little defeated by the time¬†we had wrapped. As¬†we started to make our way back to the car, my photographer¬†(aka hubby) started to goof off by snapping a few pictures as if he was¬†a paparazzi. After looking at those set of¬†pictures I realized that I didn’t look as bad as I thought I did. No, my outfit wasn’t perfect but¬†I got through the tunnel. And it¬†wasn’t until I let go of my fears that we captured my favorite picture from the shoot:

Someone once told me that the greatest reward in life come from doing things that scare you the most. I couldn’t agree with that more. Change is uncomfortable but the¬†only way to get passed your fears/insecurities is to go through the tunnel. Thank you for reading this unusually long post. Your reward is more pictures of me from the shoot. ¬†ūüôā

Instant Chic

Instant Chic

Hi Everyone! I hope you are doing well! I am at a stage in my life where my personal style is evolving. More and more I find myself drawn to an effortlessly chic esthetic. Below are a few of the items that I have found helpful in achieving that look.
1. Leather/Faux Leather Jacket- Oh leather jackets how I love thee! Let me count the ways: 1. they are slimming, 2. provide warmth, 3. create modesty, etc.  Best of all, a leather jacket has the ability to transform a ho-hum outfit into a chic one. I also love how it instantly adds a little edge to anything it is paired with. Be sure to look for a timeless leather jacket that is appropriate for your figure.
2. Sunglasses- Sunnies are another multi-purpose closet staple. They protect our eyes from the sun and those unsightly under eye bags. Sunglasses have always had a cool factor about them. My favorite styles are aviator and cat eye.
3. Red Lipstick- A bold blue based red lipstick can take your look from drab to fab in an instant. Paired with oversized sunnies is the easiest way to look chic.
4. Black Booties- Booties have the ability to add some edginess to an otherwise plain outfit. I prefer the open-toed version as they are perfect year round.
5. Winged Eyeliner-A winged eyeliner can take your makeup from pretty to chic. Now, if I could only master how to create the asme liner for both eyes.

Day to Night

I can tell you how I feel about you night and day……. ūüé∂ How many of you remember the song I’m referring to? I would tell you which decade it is from but that would really show my age. ūüėú

Speaking of age- they say with age comes wisdom. Well wisdom has taught me the importance of having  keys items in your wardrobe. Pieces such as t-shirts, blazers, black pumps, a good pair of jeans and a LBD (little black dress) are the building blocks for any wardrobe. Their versatility can take you from day to night. I am quite a frugalnista however I now spend a little more on these items because of the amount of use you get of them.

The outfit below is an example of how a staple piece (in this case a blazer) can take you from day to night. What are some of your staple wardrobe items?

La Vie En Rose

Date Night
Rose gold is quite possibly my favorite metal. I love that it is a vintage gold that has made a huge comeback. There is something very unique yet feminine about it. It is that femininity that inspired me to create this date night outfit inspiration. I purposely used dainty rose gold jewelry as a contrast to the other bold pieces. A rosy pink lip helps to pull the outfit together.

Get In Formation!

Ivy Park After Dark

Beyonce is¬†performing at the Rose Bowl tonight (woot, woot!). I will not be in attendance¬†but¬†that¬†didn’t stop me from putting together an outfit inspiration.

I decided to style around a romper since most of her concert venues are outdoors. A structured blazer adds a bit of chicness (and some warmth if it gets cool). The booties and accessories add a bit of edge while the classic pops of red balances out the outfit. A low sleek ponytail is ideal for showcasing the Ivy Park cap. And just like that (finger snap), you are ready to go.

Does this outfit makes you want to get in formation?
