My At Home Facial Routine (Oily, Acne-Prone Skin)

Now that I am in my thirties, I find myself obsessed with skin care. I think this is partly because I am getting older and would prefer to get ahead of premature aging. I’ve had adult acne in the past however I have found a weekly routine that has works really well for me. Below are the steps that I take to care for my skin at home.

  1. Cleanse. Gently wash face with Clinique’s Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam.
  2. Exfoliate. Click HERE for my diy face scrub.
  3. Steam. Wet face cloth with hot water. Wring out the excess water. Place cloth over face. Repeat this 2-3 times. This opens your pores in preparation for the next step.
  4. Apply mask. I am currently using the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. I usually rinse this out in the shower.
  5. Tone. I use the Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion on a cotton round.
  6. Apply eye cream. I am not particular to any eye serums/creams. I typically use any sample sized creams I have available.
  7. Apply serum. I am currently using the Ole Henrikson Truth Serum.
  8. Moisturize. I am currently using the Clinique Acne Solutions All Over Clearing Treatment.
  9. Apply lip moisturizer. Lastly, I apply my lip moisturizer.

DIY Face Scrub

I have been on a hunt for a good face scrub for a little while now. I have used the Lush Ocean Scrub in the past and it worked well however I wanted to see if there is an alternative that works better. After a few months of searching, I decided to try my hand creating one with some items I had laying around the house. To my surprise, I found myself liking my diy version much better than anything I have used in the past. It is all natural, easy, customizable and inexpensive. I used just 3 items- turbinado, lemon and honey. I chose lemon because of its skin brightening properties. And honey is an excellent humectant.

I didn’t use any precise measurements. I simply mixed the items until I got the desired consistency. Be sure to refrigerate any leftovers (if you decide to make this on your own). Now, if I could only find a diy for a face wash. 🤔
